A Message from…Mrs. Johnston (Kindergarten)
Thank you to Mrs. Van Duyne who has volunteered to walk with us to the library on Friday.  Please come to the classroom by 12:45. This week we are working on letter H, shapes, geometric patterns and learning all about weather. We are also working on our next mass which is next Thursday- please join us.

A Message from...Mrs. Vimpeny (First Grade)   Happy 2008!  Can you believe that the first semester is finished?  We started Monday off by making New Year's Resolutions.  We've gotten right back to work.  In Reading and Language Arts, we are learning about the "Big (Main) Idea," subject-verb agreement, and friendly letters. In Math we are learning about solid figures.  We are carrying our geometry over to Science where we are learning that to build something, you need to make a plan or design.  We've also reviewed compass directions.    One more Flat Stanley has come home.  Mark's Stanley traveled to Michigan and Ohio!  Stanley now has a suitcase with all his adventures inside.  Soon, Stanley will visit your home so that you can see where his travels have taken him.    We will resume our library walks next Friday, January 18.  Please let me know if you would like to chaperon.    Don't forget....        Tomorrow, bring $1.00 and wear blue with your blue jeans.        Return your Museum of Science and Industry field trip permission slips and money.
A message from...Mrs. Van Duyne (Third Grade) Third grade has made a big transition from printing to cursive and I am very proud of the job that they have done. We did not miss a step in the process, they just kept marching forward. In Religion we are studying about saints and talked about our patron St. Rose. We searched the church for signs of her; ask your children where we found her. We are Reading how authors write books, how hard it might be, and the steps that they must take to get a book published. Our skill lesson is steps in process and how every step is important to achieve the best result. Spelling test on Friday. In Math we are doing addition/subtraction timed test every day, this should be reinforced at home also. It is fun to do oral drills and see how many you can do in a minute. We will be finishing this chapter and taking the end of the unit test next week. We started a new unit in English and are working on pronouns. We also finished another set of poems and the book should be coming home soon. Thanks to all who could attend the basketball game and for sending your child to school dressed appropriately. Happy Healthy New Year and thank you for a great Christmas season and all your generosity.

A Message from... Miss Kalmes (Fourth Grade)
We hope everyone had a very nice holiday and are looking forward to a
great New Year! We are enjoying reading some tall tales about John
Henry and Paul Bunyan. We are also learning about the Ten Commandments and
 how we can follow them.

The class is making a set of multiplication flash cards to study at
school and they should have another set at home to study at least 10
minutes each evening. Students who have mastered the facts usually have a
much easier time when it comes to multiplying, dividing, and doing
 fractions.
A Message from... Mrs. Specht (Fifth Grade)

First, I would like to thank everyone who made the Christmas Eve Mass such a meaningful liturgy.  I was so proud of our students who gave their time and effort to make this celebration special for our parish.

We have jumped right into 2008 in Fifth Grade.  Multiplication facts are the big focus for the New Year and anyone who is not able to whiz through them will need to get to work.  Practice on www.aplusmath.com to improve your speed.

We are learning so much about Latin America in social studies.  Most of us decided we would not want to live in Mexico City since they have so many earthquakes.  We also read some books about the ancient cultures of the region and will learn more about the Mayan, Aztec and Incan people in the next few weeks.

After reading about the heroic acts of Kate Shelley, students designed postage stamps to honor some heroes they admire.  Some chose national heroes like Rosa Parks or service members who defended our country, while others opted for family members who had saved lives.

We continue to pray for family and friends as we begin our religion lessons.  Students are learning more about Jesus death, resurrection and ascension into heaven and how that affects our lives. Because of Jesus’ love for us, we need to try to love others the same way.  It is not always easy, but God is pleased when we do our best.

May God bless you all as we begin this New Year.
